Stephen Henderson was born and brought up in Ayrshire. Growing up in a musical household meant that Stephen was immersed in music from an early age.
Graduating from the Royal Conservatoire Scotland in 2015 with a first class honors in Jazz, Stephen is currently the drummer/percussionist for Mercury nominated artist, Fergus McCreadie. Fergus’s trio (also featuring David Bowden on bass), have released 3 highly acclaimed studio albums, the last of which ‘Forest Floor,’ was nominated for the mercury prize 2022 and won the Scottish Album of the Year the same year, the first instrumental album to do so.
Stephen is high in demand as performer and session musician across the UK and has performed with artists such as: Laura Jurd, Tim Garland, Rob Luft, James Tormé (LA) Aidan O’Rourke, Leroy Brown (New Orleans), Elchin Shirinov (Azerbaijan), - to name a few.
In 2018 Stephen started his first solo project, ‘Modern Vikings’ featuring Fergus McCreadie (piano),David Bowden(bass), Graeme Stephen (Guitar), Konrad Wiszniewski (Saxophone) and in the same year was named ‘one to watch’ by Jazzwize magazine.
